Project Recap: Underage Thinking
In the late 1990′s, I got involved with the Writer’s Room of Bucks County, a non-profit organization designed to provide local writers with both space and creative outlet. I began working as Peer Fiction Critique Coordinator for teens, and soon pitched the concept of a teen literary magazine. Within a year, the first issue of Underage Thinking was on newsstands and in bookstores across the region. I worked with local teens to create interviews, short stories, essays and poetry, as well as illustrations and photography. As Managing Editor, I selected the pieces for print and did the layout for the entire magazine in Pagemaker and Photoshop. After the kids named the magazine, I also designed the logo. I helped the kids organize a launch party at the local YMCA, complete with performances by several area bands.
After about two years with The Writers Room, and having served as Managing Editor for the first two issues of Underage Thinking, I left to pursue other projects. A few years later, The Writers Room of Bucks County closed its doors forever. Hopefully, the teens who were involved with Underage Thinking are still out there writing.
